The Miami Herald Posted on Mon, Aug. 13, 2007 Developer: 1,049-foot tower slow in the making
Developer Tibor Hollo is planning big, but it's going to take a while. The Miami builder won approval last month from city officials to build a 1,049-foot tall tower in downtown Miami. The tallest in Florida right now is the Four Seasons Hotel & Tower on Brickell Avenue, which rises 789 feet.
The two-tower structure is not short on ambition. Plans call for two million square feet of office space, 850 hotel rooms, 112,000 square feet for shops and restaurants. Convention space adds another 120,000 square feet. It's also seeking LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
But some time will pass before anyone sees the new One Bayfront Plaza. ''I don't expect the building to be finished until 2014,'' said Philip Dahan, vice president at Hollo's Florida East Coast Realty. ``The building won't be stabilized with everyone moved in until 2017. This is a 10-year process.''
